How often do I need to go to the dentist?

How often you should go to the dentist depends on your oral health and individual situation. The goal of preventative care, such as oral exams and cleanings, is to prevent problems altogether or to catch them early on while they’re easier and more affordable to treat.

For most people, it’s recommended they have a dental exam every six months. Your Vancouver dentist might suggest that you come in more or less frequently than that. It depends on how successful your homecare routine is, how fast tartar builds up on your teeth, whether or not you have any dental problems, etc.

Are dental x-rays safe?

Yes. Dental x-rays are safe. Even conventional dental x-rays deliver only a small amount of radiation. At Nest, we use low-dose, digital x-rays, which emit up to 80% less radiation than their conventional counterparts. Dental x-rays are a crucial tool to ensure little problems don’t turn into big ones. They can help diagnose disease and pathology that can’t be seen with the naked eye.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

At your first visit to our Riley Park-Little Mountain dental studio, you’ll receive a warm welcome from our friendly team. We keep wait times to a minimum, but if you get here early, you can unwind in our gorgeous, comfortable reception area.

When it’s time for your appointment, a team member will take digital x-rays, if needed. If you’re here for a routine exam and cleaning, you’ll head to your treatment suite. You can put on some headphones or watch a show on TV while a hygienist cleans your teeth.

Dr. Sonia Sahi will then perform a comprehensive oral exam. She’ll wrap things up by talking with you about her findings (if there are any) and your concerns. Dr. Sahi will also provide you with personalized oral hygiene recommendations and answer any questions you have.

If your visit is related to an issue that you’re having, Dr. Sahi will walk you through her diagnosis and treatment recommendations. She can even show you areas of concern up close using an intra-oral camera. She’ll answer your questions and tell you exactly what to expect. A team member will then go over your insurance coverage, the cost of treatment and our flexible financing options.

Do you treat children at Nest?

We do! As a Vancouver family dentist, we treat patients of all ages, from infancy through adulthood. Dr. Sahi and her team are experienced in caring for little smiles and they’ll make your child feel relaxed and at ease. We aim to make visits interactive, educational and fun. And while we’re all about prevention, if your child does need treatment, we have technology to make it a stress-free, comfortable experience.
